In this video, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, Damian Jimenez, DMD, discusses immediate dental implant placement. When a patient is in need of a dental implant, we are often able to place the dental implant at the time of tooth extraction. This is incredibly beneficial to the patient in that it reduces visits to our office and decreases the waiting time before receiving the final restoration or crown. He also addresses the question “what if I don’t have enough quality bone for implant placement?”

“Hi, this is Dr. Jimenez with Peachtree Oral and Facial Surgery, talking to you today about immediate implants. A lot of patients are referred to Peachtree Oral and Facial Surgery for dental implant placement and it's one of our focuses here that we treat our patients in the least number of visits possible.
One way we can do that is by placing immediate dental implants. An immediate implant is an implant placed at the same time as the extraction of the tooth. It gives the patients the benefit of having less treatment time, fewer surgeries, and there is a quicker waiting period until you get your final restoration or your crown.
Usually, we can do this at the same visit as your surgery. Usually, you come in for a consultation, we set you up for the surgery, and we can extract and place the implant on the same day. That's something that our patients really have loved since we've been doing it and it is a really good process for the patient because it decreases how much time they're going to be in our office in the chair, which is really good for everybody.
So some patients come to our office and question if they have enough bone for implant placement. We will find that out with information gleaned from your comprehensive exam and consultation here at Peachtree Oral and Facial Surgery at your initial visit. Sometimes patients don't have enough bone to place the implants at the time of the extraction.
In those patients, we treat the socket where the tooth is in a pretty traditional manner. We will extract the tooth, we will place a bone graft in that area in order to develop the site for implant placement at a later time. Now usually that timeline can be anywhere from 3 months to 6 months, even to a year before you get your implant placed. It just depends on how much bone you have, what the quality is, and the site of the implant placement. All of this information will be discussed at your comprehensive evaluation visit when you come in to see us..."
